Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Ephesians 6:11,12

1st September 2018

We have an interesting question here, why do we need to put on the full armour of God? What are spiritual forces of evil?

Well, we have an adversary, as 1 Peter 5:8 says:

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

That sounds a bit scary so we had better put some context on it.

The devil, is satan, or lucifer. Before his fall, satan was indeed a beautiful creature (Ezekiel 28:12–13). He was perhaps the most beautiful and powerful of all the angels. Pride led to satan’s fall. Rather than give God the glory for creating him so beautifully, Satan took pride in himself, thinking that he himself was responsible for his exalted status. Satan’s rebellion resulted in God casting satan from His presence and will, eventually, result in God condemning satan to the lake of fire for all eternity (Revelation 20:10).

So take heart, satan is a created being who has fallen from grace and set himself up against our Father in Heaven and our Lord Jesus Christ. Always remember how much our Father in Heaven, God loves you ( we discussed that 2 prayer days ago ) and how much Jesus loves you ( we discussed that on the last prayer morning ).

There are 2 significant battles that satan is described in. The first is in the book of Job, where satan is accusing Job of only loving our Father in Heaven because He has blessed Job. God says that isn't so, and Job 1:12 says:

The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.”

VERY clearly God says satan can only go so far and no further, and satan OBEYS God.

Satan accuses again that if jobs health was at risk, he would turn against God.

Job 2:6 says The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, then, he is in your hands; but you must spare his life.”

Again God sets the limit and satan OBEYS!

In this battle our Father in Heaven clearly sets the limits and satan OBEYS. This is comforting especially when we reflect on 1 Corinthians 10:13

And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.

The second battle is better known, and happens at the start of Jesus's ministry.

For 40 days, Jesus is being tempted in the wilderness by satan, and for each attack, Jesus quotes His Fathers words to the devil and stays obedient.

( Matt 4:1-11 )

The 2 things to take from this encounter is again satan does not have the power to force Jesus even in human form to do as satan wishes.

The second point is to bear in mind Jesus intercedes for us in Heaven, sat next to His Father, and Jesus is also our strength and hope. Remember he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear!

Things to think about.

John 14:27 says “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

Satan is out to rob you of your sense of God’s presence and His peace! Satan is a thief, don't let him take this peace from you. It is yours. It is a gift from Jesus, He gave it to you. Protect it. Don't let it go.

Life seems to go in seasons, so when you are in a good season, remember to give our Father in Heaven the Glory, for it is His, give thanks to Him and appreciate Him, draw close to Him. When you are in a harder season to deal with, then draw close to our Lord Jesus Christ, and our Father in Heaven, ask for their help, their guidance and wisdom, and ask for their help and peace. Remember that this season also will come to an end. Whatever the season stick close to our Father and our Lord Jesus, because they want to help you through the hard times, and enjoy the good times with you.

The most important thing to remember here, is we do have an adversary, who doesn't want anything good for you. His aim is to upset you, and turn you away from God, our Father in Heaven and our Lord Jesus. But don't let satan get his way, don't let there be anything that gets between you our our Father, or between you and our Lord Jesus. Draw close to them, and enjoy that relationship with them even now.

What can you learn from the season you are in at the moment?

Is it a good season? Then enjoy it with our Lord Jesus and Father God, give thanks and praise.

Is it a hard season, then draw close to our loving Father in heaven, ask for His peace, strength, and wisdom. Draw close to Him, ask Him for help, and think what you can learn from the season you are in?

Remember as well that Father God and Lord Jesus, creator of the whole universe, want the best for you, they have hopes and dreams for you, they want to share your life with you and help you to make the most of it. They are your biggest encourager's and supporters. Also remember our family Mount Zion are here and want the best for you. We are here to help. We will help both practically, and in Prayer. Let us know how we can pray for you and our team will take you into their hearts and lift you up in prayer.

Whilst we have an adversary satan, who doesn't have your best interests at heart,

God has put so many things around you to help you through anything that might happen in life, the whole of the Lords universe is with you, so much power and love, so remember the power of our adversary, satan, doesn't compare to the power of God and His universe.

Have Faith in Jesus and His hopes and dreams for you, remembering His unlimited and awesome power and His love for YOU!

Finally I would encourage you to remember satan is real, and powerful, But our Father God and Lord Jesus are much more powerful and loving, and caring for you. Don't give satan more time or thought than is needed. Rather Focus on our Lord Jesus and our Father God.

A prayer.

Lord Jesus, Father God, thank you that you love us and care for us, not from afar, but every day, in every way, in our homes, in our work, our cars, our families, in Church, everywhere, all the time. Help us to have faith in your love and your power. In every season, help us to draw close to you, and believe in you. Please open our eyes to the reason for every season we go through, help us to learn quickly every lesson in each season. Please help us to see our adversary, satan, and understand his ways, but help us to keep the right perspective. That you are all powerful, all loving, you are our Father and it is by your grace we live each day as you determine, not as satan wishes. Lord please protect us from the schemes of the devil, satan, and keep our eyes and hopes firmly pinned on you, our Father God, and our King Jesus. Amen
