Faith:
Confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see

Hebrews 11:1

Someone once started a discussion with me, ridiculing Jesus, so over time I tried to address his objections to Jesus. In the end it came down to him not being able to believe in something he couldn't see or touch ,something that science couldn't prove. I tried to make analogies to things taken for granted each day that require some faith. I tried to point out, each time he touches the brakes on his car, he has faith the car will slow down, which relies on both physical principles like hydraulics, friction, and energy dissipation, and also the principles by which this universe works day by day, any of which, if they changed might result in getting hurt by having a close encounter with a lorry carrying carrots. I tried the analogy of turning a light on, knowing the electricity will flow, heat produced and light as a by product will help you to see. Unfortunately he wasn't ready to see, I just hope that they were seeds watered and one day the light will dawn for him and he will be saved by having faith in Jesus, both for now and eternity.

It is only by faith that we are saved ( Ephesians 2:8,9 ) not by works, but only by us choosing to believe in our Lord Jesus, dying on the cross to pay the price for our sins yesterday today and tomorrow, that through Jesus's cleansing blood, we can have a relationship with our Father God in Heaven.

Today I thought we could spend some time thinking about faith, what it means to us, and how we interact with it each day of our lives.

Lets start by taking 5 minutes to think about the faith we have in every day things, like our cars, electricity, computers, phones, food, work, the banking system, money etc. Very few people could completely describe in exact detail the full intricacies of how each of these things works down to the last detail. However each of us knows any money we earn, which is put into a bank will allow us to go to the shops and buy food for our meals each day. We have faith in Banks. We have faith in our cars, when we press on the accelerator pedal, our car will move quicker, and when we press the brakes, our car will slow down. So many things that we have faith in but just take for granted each day.

Take some time now to think and discuss with Jesus and our Father, the things that you have faith in and maybe take for granted each day in the physical every day world.

Every day, we rely on natural phenomena to be consistent and happen regularly. We relay completely on the sun to give us heat that we can even survive. Too hot or too cold and we will die. We rely always that there is enough oxygen and other crucial gases in the air that we breath every second of every day or we will die. We rely on gravity each day to be consistent, other wise we may not be able to hang onto this spinning world we live on, or the opposite would be that we could be crushed by the pressure created by gravity if it should suddenly get 10 times bigger for example.

Why not take 5 minutes to discuss again with our Lord Jesus and Father God all the things in the natural world we take for granted but rely on completely.

In my way of thinking All of the things you have thought about are in full obedience to our Father Gods word, and are completely under His control. Every breath we take is given to us by God, no exceptions. Luke 12:7 says: Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid.

And Luke 12:25 says: Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life b ? 26Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?

So the bible encourages us to have faith in Father God and our Lord Jesus Christ. They are on your side, they are your biggest supporters and encourager's. Even if you choose not to believe, they are still faithful to you and have hopes and dreams for you.

However, if you do choose to believe and have faith, then you enter a whole new world. Faith is a choice on our part, not always easy but always rewarding.

Hebrews 11:6 says: And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Mark 11:22-24 makes it clear having faith, AND using it, will open up a whole new life ( As long as your request is in line with the Lords will ):

And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

It may be the case, but with all the faith I can muster, I may not be able to move a physical mountain yet, BUT I am absolutely sure, that praying for someone in faith will change their life. Praying for healing for someone will ALWAYS result in a positive improvement somewhere in their life. I am absolutely sure that faith in God will Always produce results bigger than your dreams because our faith empowers our Fathers dreams to become reality, and our Fathers dreams are always much bigger than ours!

Faith doesn't usually come over night, but rather as a result of a relationship with our Father God and Lord Jesus. It is the day to day walk which builds the foundations of faith. Looking back over our lives and looking for our Fathers hand at work in our lives, the way He has carried us through every season we have been in, and brought us through the events of our lives, this is what builds faith in us.

Sometimes we must walk through challenging seasons for our faith to be built up to the next level, but remember we are never alone unless we choose to be. Our Father and our dear Lord Jesus walk with us always, and nothing is bigger than they are! If we walk through a tough season, then our Father has already prepared us and given us all we need, if we have faith in that then it will make the season easier to navigate through.

Faith, hope and love change the world, and they are all gifts from our Father in Heaven, because He loves us so much. And what does any father hope for? That their children will have faith in their parents and want to build that relationship with them. How do we please God? By having faith in Him, having faith that He has great hopes and dreams for you! How do I know this? Because the whole bible is the story of how God, our Father in Heaven has always been with us, walked by our side, been our biggest supporter and encourager. Even our Lord Jesus came in Human form to teach us and lead us, to give us faith in how much our Father In Heaven loves us and desperately wants to have a daily relationship with us through our Lord Jesus Christ. God paid a huge price for this, and it is His hope to be your Father every day if you will let Him.

I used to be a very quiet and shy person, quite fearful. I have changed a lot over the years because of the work of my Father in Heaven and my Lord Jesus Christ in my life. I have learnt it is my choice to fear or to have faith. It has changed me and is still changing me day by day as I choose to walk in Faith with my Father in Heaven.

This week, lets ponder faith in our daily lives, both the physical and the spiritual and see how our faith changes over the week.

Lord Jesus, Thank you for the work that you do in us. Thank you for being with us always, for preparing and helping us through life. Lord we ask this week, please teach us more about faith, and how you want us to see it and use it in our daily lives. Please be our teacher and transform our lives through faith in you Lord Jesus and our Father in Heaven. Please draw us close to you and move our hearts with what moves yours. We pray for the members of our Church who are walking through tough seasons, Lord please will you transform these situations this week, and help us all to feel your enormous love and compassion for us. Amen
