Thanks giving

The trumpeters and musicians joined in unison to give praise and thanks to the LORD. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, the singers raised their voices in praise to the LORD and sang: “He is good; his love endures forever.” Then the temple of the LORD was filled with the cloud,

2 Chronicles 5:13

5th January 2019

The American's have just celebrated thanks giving in November, which is the equivalent to our Harvest celebration, giving thanks for the year gone by and for the harvest time. I love the idea of thanks giving, where we give thanks to our Father in Heaven for all He has provided and done for us. Every breath we take is by the grace of our Father in Heaven. Every meal we eat, the roof over our head, our family, our education, and our skills and talents are all gift from our loving Father in Heaven. All too easily we take these things for granted. As we start this new year, lets spend some time reflecting on the year gone by, giving thanks for all His goodness.

Lets try and think about each month of the year, and reflect on something that was memorable and give thanks for it. Even if it was a bad month, with upsets and disappointments, lets also remember it was our loving Father in Heaven who helped us through it. It was He who put His loving arms around us to comfort us. It was He who took us by the hand and lead us through each day. It is purely by the love of our Father that we can sit here today, having come through the events of the year. Lets remember to say thank you for carrying us through the bumps of the year, as well as the good gifts that the year has brought us. If it has been a bumpy year, I am sure there will have been some highlights as well, so lets also think about those times.

I once saw a short video put to a song, which was reflecting from God our Fathers point of view the relationship between Him and one of His children. How He was there right by their side when they woke up, hoping they would say something to Him today. He would be near them as they went through the day, hoping so desperately to hear them say something to Him. A Father, just longing to hear from His child, who means so much to Him. When evening came, and hopes were fading, He was still with His child, hoping to hear from them. As His child went to bed, and switched the light out, He was still hoping to hear from His child. Even during the night, this loving Father we have in Heaven watched over His child. As a new day dawned, again He was right with His child, so desperately hoping they would turn to Him that day. How moving that video was, it has stayed with me ever since. I think about it often.

Lets not let any day go by when we don't say good morning to our Father in Heaven, and our Lord Jesus. Lets not let a day go by where we don't thank Him for all He has done during the day, even if it has been a really bumpy day, lets remember to say thank you for helping us through the day. Lets remember always to say good night to our Father in Heaven, like we would our earthly father. I am sure that He longs for that relationship with you, His precious and ever so loved child.

When Jesus was with us, what did He say was the most important thing? He said to love your God with all your heart, with all your sole, and with all your strength. As a first step to doing that we can remember each day to say thank you and give Him the glory for all that He has given and done for us.

The next part of Jesus's answer was to love others as your self.

Lets spend some time thinking about how we love others.

Again, lets think through each month of the year gone by to see how we extended our love and the love of our Father to those around us.

Lets spend some quite time, asking our Lord Jesus to put on our hearts, someone we can be praying for over this month, then lets commit to pray for them every morning for the Lord to help them through the day. For a need to be met. For a healing from our Lord Jesus to happen for them. For a dream to be met.

Lets ask our Lord Jesus to prompt us who might need our help physically, and what we can do to help 1 person through this month. Who can we be a friend to?

Christmas time can be the best of times, but it can also be the worst of times as well. Lets pray for those we see are struggling with the day. Lets ask for our Lord Jesus to come by the side of them and carry them through the day. Lets ask for our Fathers blessings for them. Lets always remember prayer can make the biggest difference for someone, and costs us just a few moments, and a little bit of care.

Lord Jesus, as we finish this time of reflection, again we want to say thank you for all you do for us each day. Lord we know that you sit at the right hand of our Father in Heaven, and that you intercede for us because you care. Help us to show that care for others as you show for us. Please help us to make a difference to 1 person as this new year starts. Help us to remember 1 new person in our prayers each day. Lord please remind us each day of all of the things our Loving Father in Heaven has done for us and given to us. Help us to remember to say good morning, to say thank you, and to say good night each day. Please move our hearts to be good children to our Father in Heaven, and help us to treat our earthly parents with the same love and kindness, grace, compassion and mercy that you do with us. Help us to be a blessing for our parents. Thank you Lord Jesus that you care for each of us in the amazing way that you do. Jesus, our Lord and Saviour, we thank you. Amen.
